‘The Young Milord’ wins the 2025 Italian Critics' Award
The jury’s statement:
"Henze’s ‘The Young Milord’, performed in Italy for the first time in the original language. A choral production, as precisely calibrated as the mechanism of an unsettling music box, in which every member of the large cast – together with the theatre ensembles under the agile and incisive baton of Markus Stenz – has managed to adapt to the rhythm of this bittersweet satire, which director Daniele Menghini has set in a 19th century that recalls a children’s picture book, yet is ambiguous and malicious."
The Hans Werner Henze Foundation expresses its delight and congratulates everyone involved in the production.
