In 1976, on the 70th birthday of Paul Sacher - Swiss conductor, promoter and interpreter of new music - Mstislav Rostropovich invited twelve of the most important contemporary composers to write a composition for violoncello on the theme eS A C H E Re. In 1994, the first recording of these works is available, played by David Geringas - himself a student of Rostropovich - and his award-winning master class.
