Recorded with the Venice Baroque Orchestra, harpist Anneleen Lenaerts and guitarist Sean Shibe, among others, the Grammy-award-winning mandolin virtuoso Avi Avital from Israel has for the first time selected exclusively original compositions for his instrument. The album includes a concerto by Vivaldi, a sonata by Domenico Scarlatti, Beethoven's little-known Adagio ma non troppo for mandolin and harpsichord (or harp) as well as more recent chamber music and solo works by Paul Ben-Haim, Hans Werner Henze, Giovanni Sollima and David Bruce.
"This recording reflects both the mandolin's past and its present. I wanted to present the spectrum of mandolin music in the classical tradition," says the musician.
