The great German composer Hans Werner Henze (1926-2012) deeply loved Italy, and in the mid-1960s he chose to live in a house he had built for himself in the Castelli Romani, in Marino, an idyllic, peaceful location half an hour's drive from Rome. For almost half a century, Henze composed most of his scores at Villa La Leprara and hosted friends such as musicians, artists, intellectuals, politicians and celebrities, elegantly practising the art of good living. Along with the photographs of La Leprara as it looked just a few days before it was purchased by a new owner, this book collects the testimonies of some of the composer's many friends and collaborators who spent unforgettable days there.
