13th Internationales Kammermusikfestival Nuremberg 2014

The 13th Festival in Nuremberg focussed on the great composer Hans Werner Henze. His music has been contrasted with that of Beethoven, Britten and Mahler, thus presenting also his idols, aesthetic standards and expressive skills.

Highly artificial songs for tenor (Three Auden Songs, Six Songs from the Arabian, Kammermusik 1958) alternated with instrumental music, whose motives derived from folk music (Neue Volkslieder und Hirtengesänge), and a top event was Henze's collection of political songs, Voices, paired with Mahler's Lied von der Erde. (Henze himself once called his “Voices” like this). The Festival's most prominent participant was Mark Padmore, now world wide in great demand, who interpreted the songs for tenor with an elegant, yet highly expressive voice.
