by Michael Kerstan
In April 2018, the composer Saskia Bladt is spending a study and work residency at La Leprara. Until shortly before, she was a Villa Massimo scholarship holder and now she is realising a commission from the Munich Biennale - International Festival for New Music Theatre.

Anna Sophie Lugmeier created a stage curtain from a photo of the olive orchard on La Leprara.
Her piece is entitled regno della musica - TERRA. As the motto of the Biennale 2018 is "Private Matter", the piece will be premiered in a small space, an art gallery. Saskia's idea is to turn this gallery space into a private salon, and for this purpose she is photographing La Leprara's salon as well as the garden and also the two piccoli levrieri italiani, Aristeo and Belmonte, together with her set designer Anna Sofie Lugmaier. The photos will be plotted onto huge canvases and the gallery will be decorated with them. In this way, Henze's attitude to life materialised in his living environment becomes an aesthetic moment for the youngest generation of composers.
During a visit to the last performance of Saskia's music theatre work regno della musica - TERRA, the Hans Werner Henze Foundation is delighted: the composer has visually processed the impressions of La Leprara in a very prominent way. Thus, parts of the olive garden can be found as curtains and the Italian greyhound Aristeo on the lawn, details from the villa adorn the walls of the gallery as framed miniatures. The composer has taken the Biennale's motto, "Private Matter", and made it her own in a very courageous way: for ten days, she virtually lives in the ambience of her work and under the eyes of the visitors. The whole project, a mixture of composition, installation and event, concludes with a "Schubertiade", in which Schubert's music will be heard alongside Bladt's music.
Whoever studies the programme carefully will learn that the harmony system Saskia Bladt developed especially for her compositions is based on the astrological constellation at the time of Henze's birth.
