Stefano Grondona is one of Italy’s leading guitarists and a winner of the ARD Music Competition, amongst other awards. He has performed the Royal Winter Music frequently since 1982 and recorded both sonatas for Stradivarius to mark the 100th anniversary of Hans Werner Henze’s birth. These are the editions by Julian Bream and Reinbert Evers; however, as intended by the composer, Grondona includes the specially composed ritornello at the beginning and end of the first sonata, as an interlude between the individual movements, and at the end of the second sonata.
