The CD entitled Venice brings together choral music sung by the Norddeutscher Rundfunk choir and music for brass instruments played by the NDR Brass. The pieces were written in Venice or have a close connection to the Italian lagoon city. The Sonata per otto ottoni (Sonata for eight brass instruments) by Hans Werner Henze, premiered in 1983, is based on the church sonata op. 4/11 by Tommaso Antonio Vitali, written around 1700.
