The Rome Opera celebrated the composer’s anniversary in May 2026 with a unique Henze-Cuba festival.
The highlight of the festival was the Italian premiere of “La Piccola Cubana” and the recital “El Cimarrón”, each featuring two performances.

As part of the Roman Henze-Cuba Festival, Michael Kerstan spoke in Rome with the Cuban ethnologist Miguel Barnet, the author of the two ethnobiographical novels on which Henze’s works "El Cimarrón" and "La piccola Cubana" are based.
